Major Regulatory Change Coming to the UK Waste Industry
From October 2026, DEFRA will launch the Digital Waste Tracking Service (DWTS) - one of the biggest updates to waste regulation in decades.
For the first time, all Waste Receivers will be legally required to record and report every waste movement digitally, creating a single, unified system across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
This new platform will:
- Improve traceability & accountability
- Reduce misreporting
- Tackle illegal dumping
- Support the UK’s sustainability goals
- Provide real-time insight into where waste comes from, where it goes, and how it’s treated
At GlobeWeigh working alongside our partners Weightron Bilanciai, we’re working closely with DEFRA to ensure our industry-leading WinWeigh IV software is fully compatible with all finalised DWTS requirements.
WinWeigh IV already enables operators to:
- Track incoming & outgoing materials
- Record weighbridge transactions
- Manage waste documentation
- Generate custom reports & exports
By the time DWTS goes live, GlobeWeigh WinweighIV customers will be able to transition seamlessly - ensuring full compliance with minimal disruption.
October 2026 may seem far away, but preparation starts now. If your business handles, transports, manages or disposes of waste, DWTS will apply to you.
