STL Logistics based in Mallusk Co Antrim are one of Ireland’s major transport companies and has been operating for over 35 years. Globeweigh have recently installed a logistics weighbridge with auto notification function.
The Globeweigh weighbridge was installed at the Mallusk to satisfy the requirements of a local dairy company, shipping product overseas. As part of the requirements specification the client wanted electronic notification and proof of weighing. The was achieved by installing a DD1010 weight display running on a Window CE application. This allowed Globeweigh to electronically transfer live weighing data to the client via FTP.
The system has streamlined the audit trail by reducing paperwork.

Globeweigh has recently developed a solution for the confidential waste paper industry. Previously the weight of collected waste paper was estimated or crudely weighed using handheld scales. With traceability ever more important there needed to be a better solution for weighing confidential waste.
Globeweigh were asked by Dublin based Confidential Shredders – PULP to develop a system for weighing within the bin. Several local companies said it couldn’t be done, but Globeweigh produced a solution.
Based in Co Armagh Globeweigh manufactures a range of industrial weighing equipment, and used their experience and expertise to satisfy the client’s needs.
Now the PULP operatives can go on site and easily weigh confidential waste by simply dropping it bagged or loose into the bin containing the weighing device. The weigh is read and recorded from a digital weight display at the side of the bin. Weights can be manually recorded and also totalised automatically by the display.
After returning to base the PULP operative can tip the bin without damaging the weigher.

GlobeWeighs OEE software provides a unique combination of availability, performance, quality and giveaway to give a total efficiency score of each line. Because we interface directly with your equipment instead of using sensors we can accurately capture more data allowing us to include a giveaway element into our calculations as well.
This is just a couple of extracts from Export and Freights Court Reports highlighting the dangers and driving with overweight vehicles.
Vehicle was Dangerously Overweight
A County Antrim operator has convicted at Antrim Magistrates’ Court and fined a total of £500 plus £31 court costs. The conviction arose when DVA Vehicle Examiners topped a 2 axle Mercedes van and directed the vehicle to the DOE weighbridge site at Toomebridge.
The vehicle was subsequently found to be overweight on the 1st axle by 344kgs (20.8%), on the 2nd axle by 511kgs (22.7%) and on its gross vehicle weight by 1,255kgs (35.8%).
The vehicle was overloaded to such an extent that it was deemed to be in a dangerous condition and it was prohibited from moving until the load was adjusted on site to the correct legal limit.
When a company director was interviewed about the offence he replied: “I didn’t know about the legal load that is allowed to be carried on a long wheel base sprinter was so low.”
A County Londonderry driver was convicted at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court and fined a total of £500 plus £34 court costs.
The conviction arose when DVA Vehicle Examiners stopped a 3 + 5 axle DAF goods vehicle at Harbour Highway, Larne and found it to be overweight on its gross train weight by 39040kgs (88.72%).
Fined for being Overweight
A County Tyrone operator was convicted at Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court and fined a total of £900 plus £31 court costs.
The conviction arose when DVA Vehicle Examiners stopped a 3 axle Volvo articulated goods vehicle in combination with a 3 axle Fruehauf semi trailer in the vicinity of the A4 Enniskillen.
The driver was directed to the test centre in Enniskillen where the vehicle was found to be overweight on its gross train weight by 4640kgs (10.54%) and overweight on the 3 closely spaced axles 4, 5 &6 by 3580kgs (14.9%) and overweight on the 3 axle by 2060kgs (17.91%).
This is a perfect example of how a Bizerba Checkweigher can be combined with a savema coder in the produce industry. The Savema coders easy to use interface makes it the perfect replacement for a Markem. In this example, Gillfresh uses the coder for bagging which then moves straight to a Bizerba Checkweigher for weight inspection. Only bags that fall outside the allowed tolerance are rejected and all data is stored for analysis at any time.
Changing products is an exceedingly easy and fast process
Globeweigh has recently installed a steel weighbridge for USEL’s upgrade mattress recycling plant in Belfast. The weighbridge will allow greater control for both inbound and outbound goods. USEL (Ulster Supported Employment and Learning) currently support and train up to 15,000 people with disabilities or health-related problems across the province. We were invited to the factory opening which was being conducted by Belfast Lord Mayor Alderman Brian Kingston.
We’re very proud to be a part of this amazing project, if you would like any more information on our weighbridge solutions please contact us
In July 2016, the new changes to the SOLAS legislation come into force and with both Ireland and the UK being states of International Marine Organisation it will affect all ports and terminals on the island.
The new SOLAS verification rules state that all containers weights have to be verified before loading onto the vessel and there are two methods that the weights can be verified. Either by weighing the container after it has been packed or weighing all of the goods and packaging material before they are packed and adding this weight to the weight of the containers.
It’s anticipated that the increase in weighing before loading will slow down the throughput of ports so upgrading existing weighbridge systems and software will be essential to comply but also keep current efficiencies. Weighing the containers once packed is by far the easiest and most accurate method and can be achieved with an upgrade to current weighbridge systems. Weighing the individual goods and collating the data is more complex but Globeweigh can provide solutions for both SOLAS verification implementation options.
Globeweigh is authorised with trading standards in the North, NSAI authorised re-verifiers in the south and have 20 years experience of supplying weighing and software solutions to the Irish market.
June 2015 has seen the completion of a new manual weigh price labelling project at Pinkertons Pork and Bacon, Armagh.
As a current customer, they had contacted us looking to upgrade and replace their current manual labelling and weigh price labelling equipment.
Following a short visit and site assessment, we agreed that four Bizerba GLP”s would be the ideal solution for the weighing and labelling of a variety of pork products in a tough process environment [Read more…]
